70 hour work weeks.

Having to fight for sunlight.

Feeling upset when you have to spend your only 30 minutes of free time to prepare for tomorrow’s work.

If you’ve been there, you know.

Now take a moment to relax. Here’s that sunshine you’ve been missing out on. Let’s go. Breath in

Breath out

If you’ve ever been in a high stress job, you know what this post is about. Those nights you had a hard time sleeping, weekends you couldn’t relax. It’s honestly an awful situation to be in.

Last year, I worked as a data analyst at a large company I shall not name out of legal concerns. We had a big project that was set to launch and I was one of two analysts that got assigned to support that team. Keep in mind, this did not remove me from my normal job duties, this was in addition to my 45 hour work week. Sound familiar? I hope it doesn’t and that it’s not an experience you can relate to.

Well the story develops further, as it usually does. A month into the project, the manager who was responsible for the project has take a few months off for personal reasons(which I obviously advocate, because gotta take care of yourself, am I right?). As their replacement, we got Tim. We all have had a Tim. My Tim was a guy who rode the corporate ladder for half a decade, and eventually found his way into middle management. Aloof, total frat bro, very chill until he gets put in a situation where he actually needs to perform a good job.

With Tim, things couldn’t have been better. We hung out after work, played in our local rec league, and became good friends. Just kidding. The other analyst and I got stuck with all the responsibility while, Tim hungout with the corporate bro group. Well the project launch had an issue, and when Tim was asked about it, he had no idea what happened(obviously, because he wasn’t working on it). Tim blamed it on me and the other analyst, and we were berated in a room for an hour. The other analyst decided to quit. I totally was happy for that person, who became a good friend of mine. But I was stuck with Tim, my normal job, my job with the new project, and my other analyst friend’s job.

Story to be continued in future posts..

It does end up getting better, as the title suggests.
